LOUISIANA — Most public schools across Louisiana are expected to close in observance of Good Friday in 2026, based on district calendars released across the state.
Good Friday, which falls on April 3, 2026, is recognized as a state holiday in Louisiana. As a result, many parish school systems have either designated the day as a standalone holiday or included it within their spring or Easter break schedules.
Several school districts have explicitly listed Good Friday as a day with no classes. These include East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, Iberville Parish Schools, Grant Parish Schools, the City of Baker School System, St. Mary Parish Schools, Sabine Parish Schools, and Louisiana Virtual Charter Academy. In each of these systems, students and staff are scheduled to be off for the holiday.
Other districts, such as St. Tammany Parish Schools and Lafayette Parish Schools, will also have no classes on Good Friday, though the closure comes as part of a broader spring or Easter break rather than a single-day observance.
Because Louisiana does not maintain a centralized school calendar, each parish sets its own schedule. However, a review of multiple district calendars shows a consistent pattern statewide: the majority of public schools will be closed on Good Friday, either directly or as part of a longer holiday break.
Families should still check with their local school system to confirm specific schedules, as a small number of districts may choose to remain open or structure their spring break differently.
