One person dead, five injured following vehicle crash in Michigan

MICHIGAN — One person was killed and five others were seriously injured in a multi-vehicle crash Saturday night in Lansing Township, according to authorities.

Police said the crash happened around 8 p.m. on March 28 along West Saginaw Street near Rosemary Street. Investigators reported that an SUV traveling eastbound crossed into the westbound lanes, where it struck an oncoming vehicle. That initial collision then led to a crash involving a second westbound vehicle.

Officials said a 36-year-old man from Lansing was killed in the crash. Five other people were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. Authorities did not specify which vehicle the victim was in.

Police said speed and alcohol are believed to have been contributing factors, and a criminal investigation has been launched.

Investigators are also looking into reports that the vehicle believed to be at fault may have been involved in a separate crash earlier on West Saginaw Street near Waverly Road before fleeing that scene.

Multiple agencies responded to assist, including the Lansing Police Department, the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, and the Michigan State University Police Department.

The Ingham Regional Crash Investigation Team is leading the investigation. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the crash to contact police as the investigation continues.
