NORTH CAROLINA — A domestic dispute between two off-duty law enforcement officers turned deadly Friday night in Cumberland County, according to officials.
Deputies with the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said they were called just before 11 p.m. to the 1600 block of Seattle Slew Lane in Hope Mills.
When deputies arrived at the Cypress Lakes Village neighborhood, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation determined the shooting stemmed from a domestic disturbance between two off-duty officers.
“This is not a random incident and there appears to be no threat to the public,” deputies said in a statement.
The identity of the victim has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
