LOUISIANA — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal crash that claimed the life of a St. Landry Parish man Friday morning.

Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop E responded around 7:15 a.m. to a two-vehicle crash on Louisiana Highway 29 near Louisiana Highway 115.

Authorities identified the victim as 68-year-old Steven Ducote of Morrow.

According to a preliminary investigation, Ducote was driving a 2015 Ford truck southbound on Louisiana Highway 29. At the same time, a 2024 International tractor-trailer was traveling northbound.

Investigators said the Ford crossed the centerline for reasons still under investigation and collided with the tractor-trailer.

Ducote, who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, who was also properly restrained, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Officials said it is unknown whether impairment was a factor. Routine toxicology samples were collected and will be analyzed.

The crash remains under investigation.
