FLORIDA — A 19-year-old man was arrested after police said he stole a vehicle, led officers on a brief pursuit, and was later found hiding in a tool shed.

According to the Sarasota Police Department, officers responded the morning of March 6 to a report of a stolen vehicle near Barrington Circle.

Police said the vehicle was later spotted traveling northbound on Tuttle Avenue near Fruitville Road. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver accelerated and began driving into oncoming traffic.

An unmarked unit followed the vehicle at a distance and observed the driver run a red light before turning onto Prudence Drive, where the suspect parked and fled on foot.

A nearby homeowner told police he saw a man matching the suspect’s description enter a tool shed on the property. Officers responded to the area, and the suspect, identified as Guy T. D’Agostino, surrendered without incident.

After taking him into custody, officers retraced his path and found a wallet and a crossbody bag containing a white powdery substance that later tested positive for fentanyl.

D’Agostino is charged with motor vehicle theft, fleeing and eluding with disregard for safety, possession of fentanyl, and operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license.

The investigation remains ongoing.
