TENNESSEE — A homicide investigation is underway after a missing woman was found dead in Putnam County, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies were called around 4:15 p.m. Wednesday to the area of Phy Road near Cookeville after a homeowner reported discovering a partially concealed body in a wooded area on their property.
Officials confirmed the body matched the description of 32-year-old Samantha Goolsby, who had been reported missing by her family after she failed to return home Tuesday.
Investigators said they believe a domestic dispute occurred Tuesday morning between Goolsby and 57-year-old Lora Morgan. Authorities said Morgan later confessed to shooting and killing Goolsby.
Morgan was taken into custody and booked into the Putnam County Jail. She faces charges of first-degree murder, abuse of a corpse and tampering with evidence. Her bond was set at $820,000.
Sheriff Eddie Farris said the case remains under active investigation, adding that deputies and investigators are working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
No additional details have been released.
