Thousands without power in Texas

TEXAS — More than 15,000 homes and businesses are without electricity across Texas as of Thursday morning, according to data from PowerOutage.us.

Officials report 15,813 customers without power statewide, representing about 0.1% of the more than 15.6 million customers tracked. Texas currently has the highest number of outages in the nation and ranks sixth for the percentage of customers affected.

Outages were concentrated in several counties, with Hidalgo County reporting the highest number at 8,664 customers without power. Harris County had 1,519 outages, followed by Cameron County with 1,444 and Jefferson County with 1,222.

By percentage, Hidalgo County was also the hardest hit, with about 2.46% of customers affected.

Among utility providers, Magic Valley Electric Cooperative reported the largest number of outages, with 8,626 customers affected. Other major providers reporting outages included CenterPoint Energy, American Electric Power Texas, Entergy and Oncor.

Outage numbers can fluctuate as crews work to restore power and new outages are reported.
