TEXAS — A 15-year-old passenger was killed Wednesday evening after being ejected during a crash in Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said deputies responded around 5:55 p.m. to the 1100 block of Richcrest near West Hardy Road.
Investigators reported that a BMW carrying five teenagers ran a stop sign at a high rate of speed and collided with a Honda occupied by one person.
Officials said one of the passengers in the BMW, identified as 15-year-old Orlin Perez Regalado, was ejected from the vehicle and later died at a hospital. Authorities noted the teen was not wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the BMW, a 16-year-old boy, was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Two other passengers, both 18 years old, were not injured, while another passenger fled the scene, according to deputies.
The driver of the Honda, a 40-year-old man, was also taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials said alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Authorities noted that no charges have been filed at this time, but the investigation remains ongoing and charges, including possible criminally negligent homicide, could be considered.
