NORTH CAROLINA — A Jones County man is facing multiple drug and firearm charges following a traffic stop in Craven County, according to deputies.

The Craven County Sheriff’s Office said 39-year-old Benjamin Swindell was stopped Tuesday in the area of U.S. Highway 17 South and Trent Creek Road.

During the stop, a K-9 unit conducted a search of the vehicle, which deputies say led to the discovery of fentanyl, cocaine and marijuana. Authorities also reported finding a concealed firearm and cash on Swindell.

Swindell has been charged with three counts of trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver fentanyl, and possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance. Additional charges include maintaining a vehicle for the sale of controlled substances, possession of marijuana up to one-half ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia and carrying a concealed firearm.

He is being held at the Craven County Detention Center without bond.

The investigation remains ongoing.
