NORTH CAROLINA — A teenager has died following a golf cart crash in a Lake Norman neighborhood, according to the Mooresville Police Department.

Authorities said the crash occurred Monday, March 23, at the intersection of Swamp Rose Drive and Golden Star Lane. The incident involved several other children, investigators said.

Emergency crews responded to the scene, where the teen was found seriously injured. She was transported to a hospital but later died from her injuries.

Police have not released the victim’s identity. However, ATA Cheer Lake Norman confirmed the teen was a female cheerleader at their facility.

Officials said there did not appear to be another vehicle involved in the crash.

Safety advocates are reminding families that golf carts should be treated like motor vehicles. Amber Rollins, director of Kids and Car Safety, urged parents to speak with their children about the risks associated with operating them.

The Mooresville Police Department said the investigation into the crash is ongoing.
