INDIANA — An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to nearly three decades in prison following his conviction on multiple drug and firearm charges.
Curtis Gaines Jr. was sentenced to 29 years in the Indiana Department of Correction after being found guilty in a February 2026 jury trial.
He was convicted of dealing cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon. Following the verdict, Gaines also pleaded guilty to a habitual offender sentencing enhancement.
The charges stem from a May 2025 investigation, when officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department’s SWAT team, Violent Crimes Task Force, and Violence Reduction Team executed a search warrant at Gaines’ apartment on the city’s far east side, near the 3900 block of Breen Drive.
During the search, authorities found drug-related items including digital scales and utensils used to cook crack cocaine.
Officers also seized 7.08 grams of fentanyl, 65.29 grams of cocaine, 10.7 grams of methamphetamine, 23.84 grams of synthetic narcotics commonly known as Spice, 29.04 grams of marijuana, and 13.81 grams of narcotic pills. In addition, two firearms and a large amount of cash were recovered from the residence.
Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said the sentence reflects ongoing efforts by law enforcement to target individuals involved in drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.
“This 29-year sentence is the result of our continued partnership with law enforcement to target and prosecute individuals who exploit others for financial gain,” Mears said in a statement.
Gaines will serve his sentence in the Indiana Department of Correction.
