
NORTH CAROLINA — Thousands of homes and businesses across North Carolina are without electricity Tuesday afternoon, according to data from PowerOutage.us.
As of the latest update, approximately 2,727 customers are without power statewide, representing about 0.05% of the nearly 5.9 million customers tracked. North Carolina ranked fourth in the nation for total outages and 12th for the percentage of customers affected.
Mecklenburg County reported the highest number of outages, with about 1,410 customers without service. Other counties with notable outages included Surry County with 651 customers affected and Forsyth County with 233.
Duke Energy reported the majority of outages, with about 2,636 customers without power, accounting for the largest share among utilities in the state.
By percentage, Mecklenburg County was the hardest hit, with about 0.21% of customers affected.
Restoration efforts are ongoing.
