FLORIDA — A 20-year-old Bartow man was killed in a late-night crash in Lake Wales, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred around 11:15 p.m. on March 22 at the intersection of Canal Road and Timberline Road.
Investigators said Enoch Hernandez was driving a 2022 Chevrolet Corvette northbound on Timberline Road when he failed to stop at a stop sign at Canal Road. The vehicle continued through the intersection and entered a water-filled area measuring approximately 30 feet wide, 200 feet long and at least five feet deep.
Authorities said the vehicle rolled and came to rest partially submerged.
Hernandez was pronounced dead at the scene by first responders.
A passenger in the vehicle was airlifted to a local hospital with significant but non-life-threatening injuries and is expected to recover.
Officials said both occupants were wearing seatbelts and the vehicle’s airbags deployed.
The crash remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
