FLORIDA — A man was arrested after deputies seized a large quantity of drugs during a traffic stop near the Okeechobee Music & Arts Festival, according to the Okeechobee County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said a deputy and K-9 unit were patrolling along U.S. Highway 441 North when they conducted a traffic stop on a truck with a camper for a traffic violation.
During the stop, the K-9 alerted deputies to the possible presence of narcotics inside the vehicle.
A search of the truck and camper led to the discovery of a significant amount of drugs, including approximately 650 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, more than 3 pounds of mushroom-infused chocolate, 128.7 grams of cocaine, 3.6 grams of ecstasy, 1.4 grams of heroin and 172.3 grams of marijuana, according to authorities.
Deputies arrested 27-year-old Elijah Whitford in connection with the incident.
Whitford faces multiple charges, including trafficking in cocaine, possession with intent to sell psilocybin, possession of heroin and possession of MDMA/ecstasy.
Officials said the enforcement effort was part of ongoing operations to maintain safety and prevent illegal drug activity during the festival.
The investigation remains ongoing.
