FLORIDA — A bicyclist was killed late Sunday night in a crash involving an SUV on Lockwood Ridge Road, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lockwood Ridge Road and Gocio Road.
Investigators said a 56-year-old Sarasota man was driving an SUV southbound on Lockwood Ridge Road when a bicyclist attempted to cross the roadway and entered the vehicle’s path. The SUV struck the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity.
Lockwood Ridge Road was closed for several hours following the crash and reopened around 4 a.m., according to the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
