One person dead following vehicle crash in Kentucky

KENTUCKY — One person is dead following a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning on Newtown Pike, according to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the crash was reported around 12:02 a.m. on Newtown Pike between U.S. 460 and Old Oxford Road.

Investigators determined that a 2017 Infiniti traveling north left the right side of the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree. Authorities said the vehicle then caught fire.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by the Scott County Coroner’s Office. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

Due to the severity of the crash, the Georgetown-Scott County Collision Investigation Unit was called to assist.

Multiple agencies responded, including the Scott County Fire Department, Georgetown Police Department, Georgetown-Scott County EMS and the coroner’s office.

The crash remains under investigation.
