TENNESSEE — One person was seriously injured in a shooting in downtown Memphis on Saturday, according to police.

Memphis Police Department officers with the Entertainment District Unit responded to a disturbance call at Handy Park. Authorities said officers heard three to four gunshots near the intersection of B.B. King Boulevard and Peabody Place.

Police said a person approached an officer and collapsed as people in the area began running.

The victim was transported to Regional One Health in critical condition.

Officers located two individuals matching suspect descriptions in a parking garage stairwell on Peabody Place. One attempted to run but was later detained. Another suspect was found on Beale Street near Rufus Thomas Boulevard and was also detained.

Investigators said a handgun, two cell phones and a backpack containing about a pound of marijuana were recovered nearby. Police added that the firearms involved had been reported stolen.
