TENNESSEE — A man wanted by Interpol on an attempted murder charge was arrested Wednesday in Alcoa after police responded to a reported disturbance involving a firearm at a local motel.
According to the Alcoa Police Department, officers were called to the Alcoa Inn around 1:40 p.m. after receiving a report that a housekeeper had a gun.
Police identified the housekeeper as D’Andre Moxey, who told officers he did not have a firearm and had only retrieved a knife in self-defense after a confrontation with a guest. Moxey said the dispute stemmed from a disagreement involving a woman both individuals knew.
The guest, identified as Darrell Hurst, gave a different account, telling officers that Moxey entered his room, argued with him, then returned with a handgun and attempted to force his way inside. A witness reportedly corroborated Hurst’s statement.
During the investigation, officers observed what they believed to be marijuana in Moxey’s room. Authorities said Moxey repeatedly denied having a gun and appeared hesitant when questioned.
A warrant check revealed Moxey was wanted in the Bahamas through an Interpol Red Notice for attempted murder. He was detained, and officers obtained a search warrant for his room.
Police said the search uncovered a black 9mm handgun, 18 rounds of ammunition, a concealed magazine and marijuana. Investigators later reviewed surveillance footage that allegedly showed Moxey retrieving a handgun from his room and attempting to enter Hurst’s room during the incident.
Moxey was charged locally with attempted aggravated burglary. Officials said it remains unclear whether he will be extradited to the Bahamas to face the attempted murder charge.
Takeaway: A routine disturbance call led to the arrest of a man wanted internationally on an attempted murder charge, with additional charges filed locally in Tennessee.
