SOUTH CAROLINA — An armed man was arrested early Friday after a barricade situation in Florence, police said.
Officers with the Florence Police Department responded to reports of gunfire around 3 a.m. in the 400 block of 3rd Loop Road.
Police said a man, later identified as Vincent Anthony Pitts, was seen carrying a rifle. When officers gave verbal commands for him to surrender, Pitts fled into an apartment.
Authorities surrounded the residence, and Pitts later exited the home and was taken into custody without further incident.
He has been charged with discharging a firearm within city limits, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony, and breach of the peace of an aggravated nature.
The incident remains under investigation.
