GEORGIA — A multi-vehicle crash involving serious injuries has shut down portions of Interstate 95 in both directions Friday morning, causing significant traffic disruptions in the area.
According to Pooler police, all lanes of I-95 North and South between Interstate 16 and Highway 80 were closed as emergency crews responded to the scene.
First responders, including fire, law enforcement and EMS personnel, were seen working to assist those involved and clear the crash site. Authorities said the closure was expected to last for several hours, with drivers urged to avoid the area.
The crash also forced the closure of the Pine Barren Road bridge over I-95, further impacting traffic in the surrounding area.
By late morning, officials confirmed that at least one eastbound lane on I-16 had reopened and the overpass was back open to traffic.
Details about the number of vehicles involved and the extent of injuries have not yet been released.
The investigation remains ongoing.
