PENNSYLVANIA — One person was killed in a crash early Thursday morning on Interstate 78 in Berks County, according to police.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:46 a.m. on the eastbound side of I-78 near Exit 30, between the Hamburg and Lenhartsville exits. Authorities say a tractor-trailer was traveling through a work zone warning area when it was rear-ended by a passenger vehicle.

Police reported that the driver of the car was ejected during the collision and pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as 46-year-old John Wayne Boring of Carlisle. Officials say the cause of death was blunt force trauma. Next of kin have been notified, and no autopsy is planned.

The crash temporarily shut down part of the highway, but the roadway has since reopened, according to the Berks County Department of Emergency Services.

The incident remains under investigation.
