VIRGINIA — A Unicoi man is facing multiple felony drug charges following a traffic stop on Interstate 81, according to the Bristol, Virginia Police Department.
Gavin Adams, 20, has been charged with possession with intent to distribute a Schedule I or II controlled substance and transport of a Schedule I or II controlled substance into the Commonwealth with intent to sell or distribute.
Police said the charges stem from an investigation in which authorities developed information indicating Adams was transporting illegal drugs into Virginia. After Adams crossed the state line, officers conducted a traffic stop on Interstate 81 northbound near the 3.5-mile marker.
During the stop, approximately one ounce of fentanyl was recovered, according to police.
The investigation involved multiple agencies, including the Holston River Task Force, Virginia State Police, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
The case remains under investigation.
