NORTH CAROLINA — A highly anticipated Buc-ee’s travel center planned for Mebane is expected to open in late 2027, according to company officials.

A spokesperson said the mega gas station is projected to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. Construction is still in early stages, with land grading underway at the future site along Trollingwood Hawfields Road near Interstate 40.

Plans for the location include approximately 120 gas pumps and a large convenience store, a hallmark of Buc-ee’s travel centers.

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is also working on road improvements near the I-40 exits to help manage traffic flow around the site. Officials said Buc-ee’s will contribute funding toward those upgrades.

Roadwork in the area is expected to be completed by fall 2027. Local leaders say construction on the store itself will begin after permits are approved.

The project has generated both excitement and concern among residents, with some welcoming the economic growth and others worried about its impact on small, local businesses.

The project remains in development.
