PENNSYLVANIA — At least one person has died following a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 in Mercer County on Wednesday morning, authorities said.
Mercer County Coroner John Libonati confirmed the fatality after the crash occurred in the westbound lanes near mile marker 7 in East Lackawannock Township, close to the Pennsylvania-Ohio state line.
The accident prompted the closure of a significant stretch of I-80 westbound. According to PennDOT, the highway is shut down from Exit 15 in Mercer to Exit 4, which connects to Hermitage and the Interstate 376 interchange.
Officials said the roadway will remain closed until the scene is cleared. No additional details about the number of vehicles involved or the identity of the victim have been released.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
