MICHIGAN — More than 54,000 homes and businesses across Michigan are without power as of Wednesday morning, according to outage tracking data.

A total of 54,639 customers are affected statewide, representing just over 1% of the more than 5 million customers tracked. Michigan currently has the highest number of outages in the nation and ranks second for the percentage of customers impacted.

The outages are concentrated in northern parts of the state. Alcona County reported the highest number of customers without power, with 10,461 outages, accounting for roughly 77% of customers in that area. Other heavily affected counties include Roscommon, Alpena and Ogemaw.

Among utility providers, Consumers Energy reported the largest number of outages, with more than 44,000 customers without power. Alpena Power Company had the highest percentage of customers affected, with more than 46% of its customers experiencing outages.

Officials have not yet released details on the cause of the outages. Crews are working to restore power, but no timeline for full restoration has been announced.
