INDIANA — Three men have been arrested following the reported robbery of an armored vehicle Monday morning in Kokomo, according to police.

Officers with the Kokomo Police Department responded just after 9:30 a.m. on March 16 to the Financial Builders Credit Union in the 2800 block of South Lafountain Street after receiving a report of a robbery.

Police said an employee of the armored vehicle was pepper sprayed in the face during the incident. The suspects then took an undetermined amount of money. The employee was transported to a local hospital for treatment and later released.

Investigators said the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle that was later found abandoned in the 3000 block of Matthew Drive, about 1.6 miles from the credit union. Witnesses reported seeing individuals exit that vehicle, drop off money, and get into a red Dodge Challenger.

The Challenger was later located abandoned along U.S. 31 in Hamilton County.

The investigation led officers to the east side of Indianapolis, where the suspects were seen leaving an apartment complex. Police said the individuals got into two vehicles and attempted to leave the area before both vehicles were stopped by officers.

Three men, ages 30, 20 and 19, were detained. Authorities said evidence linking the suspects to the robbery was recovered after searches of four vehicles, an apartment and a business in Hamilton County.

All three suspects were arrested and preliminarily charged with two counts of robbery and one count of corrupt business influence. They were taken to the Howard County Criminal Justice Center.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Kokomo Police Department.
