NORTH CAROLINA — Multiple lanes were closed Tuesday morning following a crash involving a school bus in northern Wake County.

According to the North Carolina Department of Transportation, at least two lanes on U.S. Highway 401 near Ligon Mill Road were shut down around 8:15 a.m. due to the crash.

Officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said the collision involved a Student Transportation of America bus, contracted with Wake County, and two sedans.

Troopers reported that one adult passenger on the bus, who helps chaperone students, suffered minor injuries. Only one student was on board at the time and was not reported injured.

In addition, the driver and three passengers in one of the sedans also sustained minor injuries. All four were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators said the bus driver attempted to turn left at a red light from Ligon Mill Road onto U.S. 401 North and was struck by two sedans that had the right-of-way. The bus driver was cited for failure to stop at a red light.

The roadway reopened around 9:30 a.m., according to NCDOT.
