NORTH CAROLINA — A woman died Sunday after a single-vehicle crash on South Franklin Street, according to the Whiteville Police Department.
Police identified the victim as Evelyn Young Pittman, 65, of Lake Waccamaw. The crash occurred March 15 near the intersection of South Franklin and Caldis streets.
Investigators said Pittman was driving south on South Franklin Street at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle while entering a curve. Authorities said the roadway was wet at the time of the crash.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and Pittman was pronounced dead.
Police said no other vehicles were involved.
In a statement, the Whiteville Police Department extended condolences to Pittman’s family and loved ones.
