Thousands without power in Virginia

VIRGINIA — Thousands of homes and businesses across Virginia are without electricity Monday morning as utility crews continued working to restore service across parts of the state.

According to data from PowerOutage.us, 8,173 customers are reported without power across Virginia out of more than 4.06 million customers tracked statewide, representing about 0.2% of customers.

Among Virginia’s 132 counties and independent cities, Russell County reported the highest number of outages with 1,968 customers without electricity. Other areas with notable outages included Roanoke County with 1,163 outages, Arlington County with 992, Fairfax County with 540, and the City of Alexandria with 362 customers without power.

By utility provider, Dominion Energy reported the largest number of customers affected, with 2,907 outages among more than 2.6 million customers served. Other utilities reporting outages included Appalachian Power Company with 2,823 customers without power, Kentucky Utilities with 1,302, and Central Virginia Electric Cooperative with 455 outages.

Statewide, Virginia currently ranks 16th in the United States for the total number of power outages and 18th for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage monitoring site.

Utility companies across the state are continuing restoration efforts.
