Thousands without power in Tennessee

TENNESSEE — Thousands of homes and businesses across Tennessee are without electricity Monday morning as utility crews worked to restore service following widespread outages.

According to outage tracking site PowerOutage.us, 7,577 customers across Tennessee are reported without power out of more than 3.48 million customers tracked statewide, representing about 0.22% of customers.

Among Tennessee’s 95 counties, Knox County reported the largest number of outages with 1,340 customers without electricity. Other counties experiencing notable outages included Maury County with 668 outages, Putnam County with 619, Hamilton County with 436, and Cumberland County with 404 customers without power.

By utility provider, Knoxville Utilities Board reported the largest number of outages, with 1,681 customers affected. Other utilities reporting outages included Volunteer Energy Cooperative with 1,480 customers without power, Columbia Power & Water Systems with 607 outages, and Upper Cumberland Electric Membership Corporation with 500.

Statewide, Tennessee currently ranks 16th in the United States for the total number of power outages and 17th for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage monitoring site.

Utility crews across the state continue working to restore service.
