
NORTH CAROLINA — Thousands of homes and businesses across North Carolina are without electricity Monday morning as utility crews continued working to restore service across the state.
According to outage tracking site PowerOutage.us, 14,562 customers are reported without power across North Carolina out of nearly 5.88 million customers tracked statewide, representing about 0.25% of all customers.
Among the state’s 100 counties, Mecklenburg County reported the largest number of outages with 4,891 customers without electricity. Other counties experiencing notable outages included Alamance County with 1,821 outages, Iredell County with 1,425, Gaston County with 861, and Polk County with 846 customers without power.
By utility provider, Duke Energy reported the largest number of customers affected, with 11,763 outages among more than 3.8 million customers served. Other utilities reporting outages included Rutherford EMC with 857 customers without power, Haywood EMC with 584, and EnergyUnited with 376 outages.
Statewide, North Carolina currently ranks 11th in the United States for the total number of power outages and 16th for the percentage of customers affected, according to the outage monitoring site.
Utility companies across the state are continuing restoration efforts.
