INDIANA — A Boonville man has been arrested and charged with burglary after a business owner reportedly watched him break into a building through a remote security camera system Sunday night.
According to the Evansville Police Department, officers responded around 11 p.m. Sunday to a report of a burglary in progress at a business along Covert Avenue. The caller told dispatchers he was able to see a man inside the building through a Ring security camera.
Investigators said officers found signs of forced entry at two separate doors, including significant damage to the door moldings. Police determined that a laptop and a computer monitor had been taken from the building.
Authorities identified the suspect as 33-year-old Collin Flores. Police said Flores also allegedly took two cans of Coca-Cola from a refrigerator inside the business.
The caller reported seeing the suspect place a computer monitor in the passenger seat of a brown Ford F-150 before leaving the area and driving north on Green River Road.
A K9 officer later located the truck parked in a lot along Green River Road. According to police, employees at a nearby gym told officers Flores had scanned into the facility at 9:42 p.m., left for about 20 to 30 minutes, and then returned later that night.
Officers conducted a pin maneuver on the vehicle and took Flores into custody.
During questioning, Flores reportedly told investigators he had entered the building while looking for a massage and claimed the door was already open. However, police said he admitted to taking the computer monitor, which officers later recovered from the back seat of his truck.
The monitor was returned to the business owner.
Flores was taken to the Vanderburgh County Confinement Center and booked on a preliminary charge of Level 5 felony burglary, according to authorities.
