ARIZONA — One person is dead after a fiery crash involving an SUV and a tractor-trailer early Monday on Interstate 10 in Chandler, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened around 12:30 a.m. on the eastbound I-10 off-ramp near Riggs Road.
Investigators said the driver of a tractor-trailer was parked on the right shoulder of the off-ramp and asleep when the vehicle was rear-ended by a Toyota 4Runner.
Authorities said the crash caused the SUV to catch fire, trapping the driver inside. The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire spread to the tractor-trailer, but the truck driver was able to separate the trailer from the cab and was not injured, officials said.
The eastbound off-ramp at Riggs Road was closed while authorities investigated the crash and cleared the scene.
