ALABAMA — Several schools, government offices and institutions across southeast Alabama have announced delayed openings for Monday, March 16, as severe weather is expected to move through the region.

Multiple school districts will operate on a two-hour delay, including Dothan City Schools, Houston County Schools, Daleville City Schools, Geneva City Schools, Geneva County Schools, and Enterprise City Schools.

Under the delayed schedule, Dothan City Schools will begin classes later than usual. Elementary schools will start at 9:40 a.m., while other schools such as Dothan High School and Dothan Tech will begin around 10:15 a.m. School buses will run normal routes but two hours later than usual.

Geneva City Schools and Geneva County Schools will begin classes at 10:00 a.m., with teachers and staff reporting at 9:30 a.m. Enterprise City Schools will also start at 10:00 a.m., with buses operating on a two-hour delay.

Other institutions have also announced schedule changes. Opp City Schools will open at 9:00 a.m., with buses beginning pickups at 8:30 a.m. Wallace Community College will delay opening until 9:00 a.m.

At Fort Rucker, Parker Elementary School will start at 10:00 a.m., and the Child Development Center will open at 9:30 a.m. Gyms and pools on the installation will not open until 10:00 a.m., although access points will open at normal times.

In addition, City of Enterprise offices will delay opening until 10:00 a.m.

Officials say the schedule changes were made due to the threat of severe weather expected across the Wiregrass area. Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and updates as conditions change.
