INDIANA — An Evansville man was arrested early Sunday after police say he was driving while intoxicated along U.S. Highway 41.

According to the Evansville Police Department, an officer was patrolling near U.S. 41 and Virginia Street around 1:15 a.m. when he noticed a black 2004 Pontiac Vibe weaving between lanes. The officer conducted a traffic stop at U.S. 41 and Lincoln Avenue.

Police identified the driver as 32-year-old Profaite Eloi of Evansville. Officers said they immediately smelled alcohol on Eloi, who told them he had not consumed any alcohol prior to driving. Authorities also reported that he did not have a driver’s license or proof of insurance.

Police said Eloi failed a field sobriety test. During a portable breath test, he recorded a blood alcohol concentration of 0.307, which is well above the legal limit of 0.08.

Eloi was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail and faces several charges, including operating while intoxicated and operating without a license.
