FLORIDA — A driver was killed early Sunday after a car ran off the road, struck a tree and caught fire near Walt Disney World, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Troopers said the crash occurred around 1:22 a.m. at the intersection of Epcot Center Drive and Overpass Road in Orange County.
Investigators said a 2023 Hyundai Elantra was traveling north on Epcot Center Drive north of Overpass Road when the vehicle was traveling above the posted speed limit and the driver failed to navigate a curve.
The car left the roadway in a northwesterly direction and struck a tree, authorities said. The impact caused the vehicle to become fully engulfed in flames.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
Officials said the Orange County Medical Examiner’s Office will notify the Florida Highway Patrol once the driver has been identified.
The crash remains under investigation.
