One person dead, four injured following vehicle crash in South Carolina

SOUTH CAROLINA — One person was killed and four others were hospitalized following a crash Saturday night in Spartanburg County, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Troopers said the crash happened around 9:58 p.m. at the intersection of Fosters Grove Road and Sandy Ford Road.

According to investigators, a 2006 Mazda sedan was traveling east on Sandy Ford Road when it ran a stop sign at the intersection and went off the right side of Fosters Grove Road. The vehicle then traveled into an open field, where it struck several trees and an embankment.

Authorities said five people were inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Four passengers were injured and transported to Spartanburg Regional Hospital for treatment.

A fifth passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash.
