
OHIO — One person was killed and several others were hospitalized after a multi-vehicle crash that occurred following an attempted police traffic stop Saturday afternoon in north Columbus.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers attempted to stop a vehicle around 3:41 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland Avenue and Maynard Avenue. Authorities said the vehicle was believed to be connected to a prior felony.
Police reported that the driver fled at a high rate of speed when officers attempted the stop. The vehicle traveled only a short distance before crashing into another car at the intersection of East 19th Avenue and Hamilton Avenue.
Officials said officers did not pursue the fleeing vehicle before the crash occurred.
One person was confirmed dead as a result of the collision.
Several other people involved in the crash were transported to local hospitals. Their conditions have not been released.
The Columbus Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
Hamilton Avenue remained restricted in the area as authorities processed the scene.
