ILLINOIS — One person is dead following a crash involving a passenger van and a semi-truck Saturday morning on Interstate 88, according to Illinois State Police.
Troopers said the crash happened just before 8 a.m. on eastbound I-88 near milepost 7 in Hillsdale. Authorities responded around 7:50 a.m. after receiving reports of a two-vehicle crash.
Preliminary investigation indicates the passenger van rear-ended the semi-truck, which was traveling in the right lane of the interstate.
The driver of the van suffered life-threatening injuries and later died, state police said.
The semi-truck driver was transported to a local hospital with suspected minor injuries.
Officials said eastbound lanes of I-88 were shut down around 8:22 a.m. as emergency crews worked the scene and investigators examined the crash.
Firefighters, paramedics and Illinois State Police remained on scene for several hours while crews worked to clear the roadway.
The crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not released the identity of the person who died.
