LOUISIANA — A delivery driver was arrested after a firearm was discovered in his vehicle while attempting to enter the grounds of a Louisiana prison.
According to the Louisiana Department of Corrections, deputies with the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested 55-year-old Steve Tellery on a charge of introduction of contraband into a correctional facility. The arrest occurred at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Center.
Officials said correctional staff located the weapon during a search of the delivery van. During the inspection, officers found a loaded Taurus 9mm handgun in a holster that had been wrapped in a raincoat inside the vehicle.
Prison officials said the situation was handled before the driver was able to enter the institution itself. Warden Travis Day said the facility was never placed on lockdown because staff addressed the situation within the sally port area.
Authorities have not released additional details about the incident.
