GEORGIA — North Georgia and the Metro Atlanta area could see strong to severe storms early Monday morning as a powerful cold front moves through the region.

Forecasters say a line of thunderstorms is expected to move in from Alabama before daybreak Monday and sweep across North Georgia during the morning hours.

Some storms could become strong to severe. Possible threats include damaging wind gusts, a few brief tornadoes, heavy rain and frequent lightning.

Behind the cold front, much colder air is expected to move into the region.

In the North Georgia mountains, forecasters say there is a chance for light snow or flurries as the colder air arrives.

Temperatures are expected to drop sharply by Tuesday morning, with lows falling into the mid-20s to lower 30s across North Georgia. The colder temperatures could lead to a widespread frost or freeze across the area.
