OHIO — Youngstown police broke up a large crowd of teenagers fighting in the middle of a downtown street Thursday afternoon, according to police reports.
Officers said the incident happened around 4:05 p.m. in the 300 block of West Federal Street near the Western Reserve Transit Authority bus station. A patrol officer reportedly saw a large group gathering in the roadway, causing traffic to back up.
Police said several fights broke out among the teens, with people seen punching, kicking and slamming each other to the ground.
Backup officers were called to the scene, and police used chemical spray to stop the fights and disperse the crowd. Ambulances were requested to treat individuals who had been sprayed, but officers said those involved ran from the area before medical personnel arrived.
According to reports, the bus station is frequently crowded with students from the Youngstown City School District during the late afternoon. Police said they have responded to multiple fight calls involving students at the location over the past two years.
Authorities also said the incident was captured on the station’s security cameras, but officers were unable to immediately view the footage because a security supervisor was not present at the time.
