
INDIANA — More than 19,000 homes and businesses across Indiana are without electricity Friday morning, according to data from PowerOutage.us.
The outage tracking service reported 19,265 customers without power out of more than 3.2 million customers monitored statewide, representing about 0.6% of customers. Indiana currently has the fifth-highest number of power outages in the United States, according to the site’s latest update.
Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO) reported the largest number of outages, with 8,178 customers without electricity. Other utilities reporting outages included Indiana Michigan Power with 4,893 customers affected and NorthEastern REMC with 2,504. Duke Energy reported 630 customers without power.
Several counties reported significant outages. Allen County had the largest number of outages with 3,232 customers affected, followed closely by Lake County with 3,229. Other counties reporting notable outages included St. Joseph County with 2,205 customers, LaPorte County with 2,089, and Porter County with 1,801.
Utility crews across the state are continuing to monitor conditions and work to restore electricity to affected areas.
