Hot Springs Police said an officer attempted to stop a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Cleveland and White streets shortly after 6 p.m. on March 12.
Police said the driver failed to stop, leading officers on a pursuit.
Around 6:10 p.m., the fleeing vehicle — driven by 50-year-old Lee Amos Smith of Hot Springs — collided with another vehicle traveling east on Hobson Avenue at Fifth Street, police said.
Authorities said two people died as a result of the crash and two others were injured. The names of the victims had not been released as of Friday morning.
Police said Smith ran from the scene following the crash but was later apprehended near Fourth Street and South Avenue.
Smith faces multiple charges, including two counts of manslaughter, two counts of third-degree battery, fleeing, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death, theft by receiving and three counts of second-degree criminal mischief.
The crash investigation has been turned over to the Arkansas State Police.
