Thousands without power in Louisiana

LOUISIANA —More than 5,000 homes and businesses across Louisiana were without electricity Wednesday evening, according to outage tracking data.

PowerOutage.us reported that 5,477 customers were without power statewide out of about 2.3 million tracked customers. The outages represent roughly 0.24% of electricity users in Louisiana.

Rapides Parish reported the largest number of outages, with 2,717 customers affected.

Allen Parish followed with 747 outages, while Jefferson Davis Parish reported 484 customers without electricity. Smaller outages were also reported in Bossier, Vernon, Evangeline, East Baton Rouge and Sabine parishes.

Among utilities, Cleco Power reported the highest number of outages, with 2,045 customers without service. Beauregard Electric Cooperative reported 1,695 outages, while Entergy reported 946 customers without electricity. Southwestern Electric Power Company also reported several hundred customers affected.

Louisiana ranked eighth in the nation for total outages and sixth for the percentage of customers affected Wednesday evening. Utility crews continued working to restore service while officials monitored the outages across the state.
