SOUTH CAROLINA — Two men were arrested Monday after deputies said a traffic stop led to a 15-minute chase along Interstate 77.

According to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, deputies attempted to stop a vehicle around 1:05 p.m. near Two Notch Road and Roof Street after observing reckless driving.

Authorities said the driver, identified as 26-year-old Cortez Jones, did not stop for deputies and a pursuit began. The chase ended on I-77 near Fort Jackson when the vehicle crashed into other cars.

Jones and a passenger, 35-year-old Lorenzo Chandler, attempted to flee on foot but were quickly caught and taken into custody.

Jones was charged with reckless driving, misuse of a vehicle tag, driving under suspension and failure to stop for blue lights and sirens.

Chandler was charged with pedestrians prohibited on freeways.

Both men were taken to the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center. Chandler was later released on a personal recognizance bond, while Jones remains in custody on a $10,000 surety bond.
