Two people arrested following drug bust in Louisiana

LOUISIANA — Two Leesville residents were arrested Monday after a traffic stop led to the discovery of multiple illegal drugs and other items, according to the Vernon Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Imelda Rivera Acosta, 27, and Linda Escobar, 45, were taken into custody on March 9 following a months-long investigation conducted by the Vernon Parish Narcotics Task Force.

Authorities said narcotics agents stopped the pair in their vehicle and found illegal substances inside. Investigators later obtained a search warrant for their home in Leesville.

During searches of the vehicle and residence, law enforcement officers reported seizing approximately 50 THC vape cartridges, various THC products, 682 ecstasy tablets (MDMA), about 920 grams of marijuana, 56 grams of cocaine, and 128 grams of hallucinogenic mushrooms. Officers also recovered $1,300 in cash and a pistol.

Acosta was charged with possession of a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II drug, possession of a Schedule I drug (MDMA), and possession of a Schedule I drug in an amount of 28 grams or more.

Escobar faces charges of possession of a Schedule II drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule I drug with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule II drug, and possession of a Schedule I drug in an amount of 28 grams or more.

Both suspects are being held at the Vernon Parish Jail. Escobar’s bond was set at $51,135, and Acosta’s bond was set at $50,500. Authorities also placed an immigration detainer on Acosta.

Investigators said additional charges may be filed as the case continues.
