Illinois high school dismisses classes early following threat

ILLINOIS — Classes at Salt Fork High School were canceled Tuesday after school officials reported an anonymous online threat.

School officials said in a post on social media that while police believe the threat is most likely a hoax, the decision was made to cancel classes for the day as a precaution.

As part of the safety measures, all high school buildings were placed on a soft lockdown and additional law enforcement officers were stationed on campus.

Parents who wish to pick up their children were allowed to do so. Officials also said North Campus junior high students who normally ride the shuttle are being held at Salt Fork North Elementary School.

Students who drive to school may leave with parent permission if a parent contacts the main office at 217-427-5331 or emails Kim Taylor at ktaylor@saltfork.org from the email address listed in the school’s records.

School officials said transportation is being arranged for students who require bus service. No additional details about the threat have been released.
