PENNSYLVANIA — U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested a man accused of illegally voting in several federal elections, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
Officials said Mahady Sacko, a Mauritanian national, was arrested in Philadelphia with assistance from the FBI. Authorities allege Sacko voted in seven federal elections beginning in 2008 despite not being a U.S. citizen.
According to DHS, Sacko entered the United States near Miami and was ordered removed from the country by an immigration judge. The Board of Immigration Appeals upheld the removal order in 2002.
Investigators said Sacko is accused of falsely certifying that he was a U.S. citizen when registering to vote in Pennsylvania.
The investigation remains ongoing.
