
NORTH CAROLINA — Police in Asheville are investigating a deadly shooting that left a 20-year-old man dead and the suspected shooter hospitalized.
According to the Asheville Police Department, officers were called around 1 a.m. Monday to the area of Patton Avenue near New Leicester Highway after receiving reports of a gunshot victim.
When officers arrived, they found 20-year-old William Wyatt Adair dead from a gunshot wound.
Investigators say the suspect was later located on New Leicester Highway, where police say he shot himself in the head. The suspect survived the self-inflicted gunshot and was taken to Mission Hospital in critical condition.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s name. Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Asheville Police Department.
Officials said the incident marks the second homicide reported in Asheville in 2026. Police also continue to investigate a separate shooting in downtown Asheville that left multiple people injured Sunday morning.
